Simply Reviews app for Shopify: collect and display customer feedback

Collect, manage, and display customer feedback to build trust and increase sales.

Updated over a week ago

The Shopify app Simply Reviews is a comprehensive review management app built specifically for Shopify dropshipping stores. The app integrates seamlessly with your AutoDS workflow, allowing you to collect reviews from multiple sources, display them on your product pages, and automatically request feedback from customers after delivery. Everything happens within your Shopify admin dashboard, with no external subscriptions required.

We’re replacing Judge.me with the Simply Reviews app inside the AutoDS platform, giving you full control over your reviews, layout, widgets, and display preferences.

What is the Shopify app Simply Reviews

The Shopify app Simply Reviews helps you build social proof systematically by importing existing reviews from supplier platforms, automatically requesting feedback from customers, and maintaining complete control over which reviews appear publicly. The app lives right inside your Shopify admin dashboard, where you manage your store operations.

When potential customers visit your product pages, they see authentic feedback from real buyers. The app displays star ratings, detailed reviews, and customer photos showing products in real-world use. This social proof builds trust that converts visitors into confident buyers.

Key capabilities:

  • Import reviews from multiple sources with advanced filtering options.

  • Automatically send review request emails to customers after order fulfillment.

  • Display reviews with customizable widgets matching your store's branding.

  • Moderate reviews with manual or automatic approval workflows.

  • Track review performance through comprehensive statistics and analytics.

Getting started

AutoDS integrates seamlessly with the Shopify app Simply Reviews, a powerful tool that lets you import and display product reviews from AliExpress, Amazon, Walmart, and Home Depot. This integration helps build trust with customers and increase conversions by adding authentic social proof to your product pages.

How to Access from AutoDS

  1. From the Product Page or Drafts Page in AutoDS, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to any product.

  2. Select Import Reviews with Simply Reviews link.

  3. If it's your first time, you'll be redirected to the Shopify App Store to install the Simply Reviews app.

  4. Once installed, the app opens directly to import reviews for that specific product.

Note: Review settings and management are handled directly inside the app within your Shopify admin. Follow the instructions below to understand more about this app and how to get the most from it.

How to use Simply Reviews:

When you first install the Shopify app Simply Reviews, the app guides you through a four-step onboarding process. You'll see a clear progress indicator showing: Welcome, Add Widgets, Email Review Requests, and Done.

Step 1 - Welcome:

The app introduces what you're about to set up, explaining that the onboarding covers setting up your account, customizing review settings, and leveraging tools to collect and display customer reviews effectively. Click "Let's start" to begin.

Step 2 - Add Widgets:

This step makes your reviews visible on your store. The app offers two primary widget options:

  • Stars Widget: Displays the average review score in your product information section, typically near the product title and price. You can customize the star color to match your brand and choose whether to show the numerical rating and review count alongside the stars.

  • Review List & Form Widget: Creates a complete customer reviews section on your product pages, displaying all reviews for each product and including a form where customers can submit feedback. The section shows the rating breakdown, individual reviews with customer names and dates, and any photos or videos customers uploaded.

To add these widgets, follow the installation instructions shown in the app. The interface displays visual previews of how each widget appears on your store. Click "Add Widget" for the Stars widget to begin installation.

Note: The app also offers additional widget layouts, including Cards Carousel, Snippets, and Product Reviews, in the Widgets section of your dashboard.

Step 3 - Email Review Requests:

The automatic review request system sends professional email requests to customers after their orders are delivered. Configure when to send these requests by setting the number of days after order fulfillment. The default setting is 10 days, but you can adjust this based on your products and typical shipping times.

This timing strategy gives customers enough time to receive and experience the product while the purchase is still fresh in their minds. Click "Next" to continue when satisfied with your settings.

Step 4 - Done:

The final screen confirms your successful setup with the message "The app was successfully configured!" Click "Start exploring" to access your dashboard and begin using all configured features.

Navigating your dashboard

After completing onboarding, your Simply Reviews dashboard becomes your control center. The left sidebar in your Shopify admin shows the app with several key sections:

  • Simply Reviews: Main dashboard with statistics and overview.

  • Manage Reviews: Review list and moderation tools.

  • Widgets: Widget installation and management options.

  • Settings: Configuration options for the app.

Key statistics

Your home dashboard displays essential metrics at a glance:

  • Reviews submitted: Total number of reviews collected across all products.

  • Average overall rating: Your store's average star rating across all reviews.

  • Average daily reviews: How many reviews you're collecting per day on average.

A line chart visualizes review trends over time, showing monthly data points that help you spot patterns in review collection. Are reviews increasing as your store grows? Did a particular promotion boost review collection? This visualization provides context beyond raw numbers.

Identifying top performers

Below the chart, two helpful lists provide actionable insights:

  • 10 best rating products: Shows your highest-rated products with their star ratings. This list highlights which products consistently delight customers. Consider featuring these items more prominently in your marketing or analyzing what makes them successful.

  • 10 last reviews: Displays the most recent reviews submitted with ratings, product names, and dates. This real-time feed keeps you connected to customer sentiment and alerts you immediately to any issues or exceptional experiences.

Manage reviews

The "Manage Reviews" section is where you moderate and organize customer feedback. Each row includes a checkbox on the left, allowing you to select multiple reviews for bulk actions.

The interface displays all reviews in a comprehensive table with several columns:

Columns

When each review was submitted (MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM format).

Rating

Star rating from 1 to 5 stars.

Product

Which product the review is for.

Reviewer Email

Customer's email address.

Reviewer Name

Customer's display name.

Status

Current state (Approved, Pending, or Rejected).

Title

The review headline, if provided.

Filter reviews

The filtering reviews tab interface makes it effortless to focus on reviews requiring your attention. When you have pending reviews waiting, click the "Pending" tab to see exactly what needs approval.

At the top of the table, four tabs filter your view:

Tab

Description

All

Shows every review in your system regardless of status.

Approved

Displays only reviews currently published on your product pages.

Pending

Shows reviews awaiting your approval if using manual approval mode.

Rejected

Lists reviews you've chosen not to publish.

Approve reviews

Approved reviews show a green "Approved" badge in the Status column, making it easy to see which feedback is currently public.

To approve a review and publish it to your store:

  1. Navigate to the "Pending" tab in Manage Reviews.

  2. Read the review to verify it meets your quality standards.

  3. Select the checkbox next to the reviews you want to approve.

  4. The review status changes to "Approved" and appears immediately on your product page.

Reject reviews

Rejected reviews remain in your system for reference but never appear on your product pages. You can view all rejected reviews by clicking the "Rejected" tab.

To reject a review and prevent it from appearing publicly:

  1. Find the review in your "All" or "Pending" tab.

  2. Select the checkbox next to the review.

  3. Choose the reject action.

  4. The review status changes to "Rejected" with a red badge.

Search for specific reviews

The search bar in the top-right corner of the Manage Reviews table allows you to quickly find specific reviews. You can search by product name, reviewer name, or review content to locate exactly what you need.

Import reviews

One of the app's most powerful features is the ability to instantly populate your product pages with existing reviews. The "Import Reviews" button in your Manage Reviews section opens the import interface, where you can choose between two import methods:

  1. URL Import: Pull reviews directly from supplier websites (AliExpress, Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot)

  2. CSV Import: Upload reviews from other review apps or exported data

Both methods use the same powerful filtering system to ensure only high-quality reviews appear on your store.

Import options and filtering

When you click "Import Reviews," you'll see a comprehensive filtering system that ensures only high-quality reviews make it onto your store. The "Reviews filtering" section includes several checkboxes with corresponding configuration fields:

Filter

Description

Allowed countries

Filter reviews by the reviewer's country or region, ensuring feedback comes from markets relevant to your target audience.

Allowed languages

Select which languages to accept in reviews, ensuring all reviews on your product pages are readable by your target audience.

Forbidden words

Enter comma-separated words or phrases you want to exclude. Any review containing these terms will be automatically rejected during import. Use this to filter out inappropriate content, competitor mentions, or specific issues.

Minimum rating

Check this box and enter a star rating (default is 4 stars). Only reviews with this rating or higher will be imported, helping maintain a positive impression while showing authentic feedback.

Minimum word count

Enable this filter and set the minimum number of words (default is 10). This prevents very short, unhelpful reviews from cluttering your pages. Reviews must provide substantial detail to pass this filter.

Require media (image/video)

When enabled, only reviews that include customer photos or videos will be imported. Visual reviews are incredibly persuasive because they show real customers with actual products.

Important: These filters work together—a review must pass all enabled filters to be imported successfully.

Import from supplier URLs

The most powerful import method lets you pull reviews directly from major supplier websites. Instead of manually collecting reviews, you simply paste the product URL, and the app automatically fetches all available reviews, applies your filtering rules, and adds them to your selected product.

Supported Suppliers:

The app currently supports importing reviews from these major suppliers:

  • AliExpress: Imports all reviews from the product page.

  • Amazon: Imports reviews from the first page of the main product page (note: variant-specific reviews are not included, only main product reviews)

  • Walmart: Imports all available reviews from the product listing.

  • Home Depot: Imports reviews from the product page.

These suppliers represent some of the largest e-commerce platforms, giving you access to thousands of authentic customer reviews that you can instantly add to your store.

How to Import from Supplier URLs:

  1. Navigate to the "Import Reviews" section from your Manage Reviews page

  2. Click on the URL import option (instead of CSV import)

  3. In the Product field, use the search bar to find and select the product in your Shopify store that you want to add reviews to

  4. In the External URL field, copy and paste the complete product URL from one of the supported suppliers.

  5. Review your filtering settings to ensure they're configured appropriately:

    • Minimum rating (recommended: 4 stars)

    • Minimum words count (recommended: 10-15 words)

    • Media requirements (optional but powerful for visual social proof)

    • Language and country filters

    • Forbidden words

  6. Click "Import" to start the process

The app connects to the supplier website, retrieves all reviews from the product page, applies your filtering criteria, and adds qualifying reviews to your selected Shopify product. The entire process typically completes within a few minutes, depending on how many reviews the supplier page contains.

Import from CSV file

The CSV import section allows you to upload reviews from other review platforms or apps. If you're switching from another review system like Judge.me, Loox, or Yotpo, this feature preserves your valuable social proof.

To import from CSV:

  1. Export your existing reviews from your current platform (most apps offer CSV export).

  2. Download the CSV template by clicking the "here" link shown in the interface.

  3. Format your exported reviews to match the template structure.

  4. Click "Select File" in the CSV import section.

  5. Choose your formatted CSV file.

  6. Click "Import" to process the file.

The app reads your CSV, applies your configured filtering rules, and matches reviews to the corresponding products in your store. You'll see a progress indicator during import. When complete, all qualifying reviews appear in your Manage Reviews section ready for approval or automatic publishing depending on your settings.

CSV template structure

The CSV template includes specific columns that map to review fields in the system. Make sure your exported data aligns with these fields. Any reviews that can't be automatically matched to products will appear in a separate list where you can assign them manually.

When including multiple image URLs in the picture_urls column, separate them with commas followed by a space.

Important: Only import reviews that represent genuine customer feedback you have the right to use. Reviews should reflect actual experiences from your store or legitimately sourced from your suppliers.

The CSV template includes specific columns that map to review fields in the system:

  • title: Review headline or title.

  • body: Complete review text content.

  • rating: Star rating from 1 to 5.

  • review_date: Date the review was submitted (format: DD/MM/YYYY).

  • reviewer_name: Customer's display name.

  • reviewer_email: Customer's email address.

  • product_url: Full URL to the product page on your store.

  • picture_urls: URLs for customer photos, separated by commas if multiple images.

  • product_id: Shopify product ID number.

  • product_handle: Unique product identifier handle from Shopify.

Make sure your exported data aligns with these fields. Any reviews that can't be automatically matched to products will appear in a separate list where you can assign them manually.

Note: You can use either product_handle, product_id, or product_url to match reviews to your products. The system will automatically identify products using any of these three identifiers.

Add reviews manually

While automation handles most review collection, you can add reviews manually when customers share feedback through phone calls, social media, or email. The manual review feature lets you capture this feedback.

To create a review manually:

  1. Navigate to Manage Reviews in your dashboard.

  2. Look for an "Add Review" or "Create Review" button (typically near the Import Reviews button).

  3. The create review form opens with several fields to complete.

The manual review form includes the following fields:

Field

Description

Media

If the customer shared photos or videos with their feedback, upload them by clicking "Select File." Customer media dramatically increases review credibility and persuasiveness.

Product

Use the search field to select which product this review is for. Type the product name to find it quickly in your catalog.

Rating

Click one to five stars to set the rating. Each star you click fills in, clearly showing the selected rating.

Review Body

Type the complete feedback in this larger text area (required). Include the customer's detailed thoughts about the product, their experience, what they liked, and any other relevant information.

Review Date

Select the date when you received this feedback using the calendar picker.

Review Title

Enter a short, descriptive headline for the review (required). Good titles are brief and specific, like "Perfect fit and great quality" or "Exceeded my expectations."

Reviewer Email

Include the customer's email address for record-keeping purposes.

Reviewer Name

Enter the customer's name as they want it displayed publicly. You can use their full name with permission, first name only, or initials if they prefer.

Time

Set the time associated with the review submission.

After filling in all required fields, click "Create review" at the bottom. The review is added to your system and follows your normal approval workflow—if you have manual approval enabled, it goes to your pending queue; if using auto-approval, it publishes immediately.

Widget appearance

Your review widgets should feel like a natural part of your store, not an add-on. The Settings section provides extensive customization options to ensure reviews match your brand perfectly.

From your dashboard, click "Settings" in the left sidebar. Look for the section titled "Easily Add More Widgets to Your Store" with a visual preview showing how widgets integrate into your theme. Click "Manage Widgets" to access the complete widget gallery and customization options.

Widget styles

The Widgets section displays multiple layout options, each with a visual preview card showing how it appears on your store and an "Install" button:

Publication settings

In the Settings section, you'll find crucial configuration options under "Reviews publish mode." This determines how new reviews are handled:

Mode

Description

Auto-publish new reviews

Choose this option to publish reviews automatically based on the filtering rules you configure. Reviews that meet all your criteria appear immediately on product pages without requiring manual approval.

Manually

Select this option to review every submission before it goes live. New reviews appear in your Pending queue where you approve or reject each one individually. This gives you complete control but requires ongoing management.

Automatic filters

The automatic filters work identically to the import filters, ensuring consistent quality standards across all reviews regardless of source. When "Auto publish new reviews" is selected, several filtering options become active:

Filter

Description

Allowed countries

Enables country-based filtering. Click to choose which countries' reviews to accept.

Allowed languages

Lets you specify which languages to accept. Reviews in other languages are filtered out.

Forbidden words

Displays "Comma separated words." Enter words or phrases to block. Reviews containing these terms are automatically rejected.

Minimum rating

Shows 4 as default. Only reviews meeting or exceeding this star rating publish automatically.

Minimum word count

Shows 10 as default. Reviews must contain at least this many words to publish automatically.

Require media (image/video)

When checked, only reviews including photos or videos publish automatically.

Email review requests

The automatic review request system runs in the background every day, sending professional email requests to customers after their orders are delivered. This feature is one of the most powerful tools for building your review library consistently.

In the Settings section, find the "Review request email" configuration:

  • Send review request email after: Set the number of days after order fulfillment when customers receive review requests. The field shows 10 days as default, but you can adjust based on your products and typical shipping times.

  • The strategy behind this timing: sending an email a few days after shipment arrives increases the likelihood of responses. This timing gives customers enough time to receive and experience the product while the purchase remains fresh in their minds.

Email templates

The section includes an email template editor powered by Unlayer Editor. This visual email builder lets you customize exactly what customers see when they receive review requests:

Review reminder template: The default template displays a subject line asking customers to consider leaving reviews, along with body text that includes product information using variables like {{productId}}.

You can drag and drop these elements to customize your email template, ensuring it matches your brand voice and visual identity. The template uses variables to automatically insert relevant product information for each customer.

The editor provides building blocks, including:

Category

Options

Blocks

Social, Menu, HTML.

Body

Overall layout settings.

Content

Columns, Button, Divider, Heading, Text, Image.

How reviews appear on your store

After configuring widgets and collecting reviews, they display on your product pages in two main areas on the Simply Reviews Product Page:

  • Near the product title: The star rating widget shows the average rating (e.g., 4.8 out of 5 stars) with the total number of reviews. This immediate social proof appears right where customers are deciding whether to learn more about the product.

  • Lower on the page: The full review section displays with several components:

    • Customer Reviews heading clearly labels the section.

    • Rating breakdown shows the distribution of 1-star through 5-star reviews.

    • "Write a Review" button invites customers to share their own experiences.

    • Individual reviews display with star rating, reviewer name, review date, review title if provided, complete review text, and customer photos or videos if included.

This layout provides transparency and builds trust. Potential customers can see the full range of experiences, read detailed feedback, and view real photos from actual buyers.

Best practices

Focus on your best sellers first

When you first set up the app, focus your review importing efforts on your top 10-20 products. These items drive the most traffic and sales, so adding social proof here delivers immediate impact. Use the import feature to bring in high-quality reviews from your suppliers, filtered for 4+ stars and meaningful content.

Balance automation and quality control

Most successful stores use a hybrid approach initially:

  • Start with manual approval to understand what types of reviews you're receiving.

  • Configure your automatic filters based on what you learn.

  • Switch to auto-approval with well-tuned filters.

  • Periodically review your pending queue to ensure quality remains high.

This balance maintains standards without creating excessive work.

Optimize your email timing

Monitor your response rates in the statistics dashboard and adjust timing to maximize feedback collection. The default 10-day delay for review requests works well for most products, but experiment with timing:

Product Type

Recommended Timing

Items requiring testing

14-21 days (supplements, complex electronics).

Simple items

5-7 days (phone cases, jewelry, basic accessories).

Standard products

7-14 days after delivery.

Feature visual reviews strategically

Customer photos and videos are your most persuasive social proof. When importing reviews, consider occasionally using the "Require media" filter to build a library of visual reviews. While this reduces the total number of qualifying reviews, the credibility boost from customer photos often outweighs having fewer reviews.

Maintain authenticity

Resist the temptation to show only perfect 5-star reviews. Including some 3-star and 4-star reviews actually increases trust—customers are often suspicious of products with exclusively perfect ratings. A mix of ratings weighted heavily toward positive appears more authentic and can improve conversion rates.

Use reviews as business intelligence

Reviews tell you what's really happening after customers receive their orders. Use this information to continuously improve your store. Your reviews contain valuable insights about your products. Read them regularly to identify:

Insight Type

Action to Take

Common complaints or issues

Address with better suppliers or updated descriptions.

Features customers love

Highlight these in product descriptions.

Questions customers have

Answer proactively in your product information.

Sizing concerns

Add detailed sizing charts.

Keep reviews fresh

Set a reminder to import new reviews monthly for your active products. Fresh reviews create urgency and show that your store has ongoing sales and satisfied customers. Recent reviews are more compelling than old ones, even if the old reviews are excellent.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Should I use manual approval or automatic publishing for reviews?

The best approach depends on your needs. Manual approval gives you complete control over every review but requires ongoing management time. Automatic publishing with well-configured filters (minimum rating, word count, forbidden words) allows reviews to appear immediately while maintaining quality standards. Many stores start with manual approval to understand their reviews, then switch to automatic publishing with refined filters.

How can I encourage customers to leave reviews with photos?

You can enable the "Require media" filter when importing reviews or publishing automatically, though this significantly reduces the number of qualifying reviews. A better approach is to customize your review request email template to specifically encourage photo submissions by explaining how visual reviews help other customers make informed decisions. Consider offering a small incentive, like a discount code, for reviews with photos.

Can reviews be edited after they're published?

While you cannot directly edit published reviews through the interface, you can reject a review and manually create a new corrected version if necessary. However, maintaining the authenticity of customer feedback is important for trust, so only make changes when absolutely necessary for accuracy or appropriateness.

What should I do if customers aren't responding to review request emails?

If your response rates are low, try adjusting several factors. First, experiment with different timing—some products need more time for customers to form opinions. Second, customize your email template to be more personalized and engaging. Third, ensure the email clearly explains how easy the review process is. Finally, consider the overall customer experience—satisfied customers are more likely to leave reviews, so focus on excellent service and product quality.
